What To Know About Vertical Blinds

When looking for window and door treatments for their homes, many people turn to vertical blinds. The selection of window blinds for your home is plenty ranging from wood to material or vinyl.

Your personal preference will be the deciding factor when you buy your blinds, before that you will want to know a few things about the characteristics of them.

If you are going to put blinds on sliding glass doors that get quite a bit of use, you need to know that vinyl or wood blinds are much easier to keep clean. This is great if you have children or pets going in and out a lot.

If you know that you like to change colors around, but you want to keep your room matching you might want to look at blinds that the hardware can stay in place and you just change the fabric. These have a vinyl back with ends where you can slide a fabric in. The fabric can change when you choose a different color paint for the room.

When looking for a blind that will help with your energy cost you can get a thicker material for your verticals. This will also serve as a room dimmer, even when the slats are open it will still be slightly darker than a thinner fabric. If you like a bright airy feeling in your room, than a lighter material vertical will be best.

When you have chosen cloth for a blind your next decision will be whether to go with the fabric that can be changed, a permanent fabric, a PVC back or a free material that is kept from moving around by a weight placed in the bottom of the blind. The fabric with no backing is the least costly of the choices.

If you like the look of wood in your home, you can also have wood blinds. They can be purchased in any wood that you like with shades ranging from very dark to a light pine. These blinds are easy to take care of with dusting and cleaning with warm water and soap or furniture polish. They will last for years with the right care.

The mounting of your blinds can also be different to suit your taste. If you have attractive moldings around your windows and doors you may not want to cover them. You can get verticals that mount on the inside of the frame and this will show every edge. However if you do not care about seeing the frame you can have the window blinds attached on the outside. This will keep more of the light out too.

Another important thing to take into consideration is the mechanism used to open and close the individual slats and the entire blind. The standard is the cord or chain that hangs from the head rail. If you have small children, you may want to go with the alternative, which is a wand. This is a piece of metal or plastic that is used alone to pull open the window blinds or you twist it to open the individual slats. If you want to avoid both, you can even order a remote control construction for opening, closing and the various tilt of the slats.

Check all of your choices before making your vertical blind purchase. When there are so many to choose from sometimes it makes the choice that much harder, so be sure of what you want.
