While some people choose to clean their vertical blinds outdoors without the need to disassemble them, there are others who feel that they can only get their fabric window blinds really cleaned if they dismantle the whole thing and clean this inside the house using a washing machine or soaking it in their bathtub or in a basin. Here are some of the ways some people clean their vertical blinds indoors.

First, for those who want to try and clean their fabric vertical blinds with the use of a washing machine, you will need to know how to disassemble and assemble these things afterwards. You may have the skills to take these window blinds apart but if you do not know how to put them back together afterwards, all that hard work would be for naught. Take note of how you remove each slat and how the chain at the bottom is attached before you do remove these from these slats from the hanging rod.

The step by step removal of the slats begins with the chain and plates at the bottom. Next, you will need to take each slat off from the hooks they are attached to at the top. Place these slats in a stack as you remove each one. You will then need to place all of these fabric vertical blinds in your washing machine and you may choose to use either your regular laundry detergent on them if they are rather dirty, your dishwashing detergent if there are some oily and grimy areas on them or you may use a gentle liquid soap on them if they are only mildly dusty. The soap you use on these slats is also dependent on the kind of cloth your vertical blinds are made of. Thicker fabric can withstand the harshness of detergents while finer fabrics require gentler soaps.

Use cold water when you wash these window blinds in your washing machine and put the machine through the lowest possible cycle. Have the slats washed by your washing machine for at least 10 minutes, carefully watching that they don’t get frayed in the cycle. After rinsing twice, remove from the washer and put the slats in the spin dryer and have it spun dry until the slats are only slightly damp. Hang back up on the hooks to dry further and attach the chains and other attachments after the slats are totally dry.

A variation to the washing machine routine is to have your window blinds washed in your bathtub. You will need to do this method two slats at a time and you will need to soak each pair of slats for ten minutes in a solution made with hot water, bleach and laundry detergent. You will also need to scrub some of the stains out and rinse these slats either in running water in the sink or outside with the use of a garden hose. Hang these out to dry in the air or in the sun. While this technique may seem rather tedious, you can get some extra exercise from it with all the walking in and out of your house that you need to do with this technique.
